Captain Ghislaine Landry excited to perform for Canadian fans following Olympic medal

Despite a beautiful seaside view along Dallas Rd., Ghislaine Landry had only rugby on her mind.

Standing shoulder to shoulder with eleven players from eleven other countries, the Canadian Womens Rugby Sevens team captain was all smiles, but said team focus was on performing for the hometown crowd.

“We came home to so many new rugby fans and we are hoping to see a lot of them out here this weekend,” Landry said. “As well as all the people that have supported us for five years going.”

Playing on home soil for the first time as Olympic medallists, she said Team Canada is looking to improve on their past home performances in the HSBC Canada Women’s Sevens tournament taking place at the Westhills Stadium in Langford. The international tournament has made their Canadian stop in Langford for three straight years.

“You are at home you have all the people here and yeah we are coming off an Olympic medal which for the first time for us is definitely exciting and obviously the girls carry some confidence out of that.”
