VIDEO: despite a rough winter, good turnout for Head of the Fort rowing competition

Langley event draws 75 boats and close to 200 competitors, down from last year but good considering the weather

An extended winter that prevented practicing produced a reduced but pretty-good-under-the-circumstances turnout for the ninth annual Head of the Fort regatta on the Bedford Channel in Fort Langley today (Saturday).

An estimated 75 boats and close to 200 athletes took part in the event hosted by the University of the Fraser Valley rowing program.

The event featured junior, university and Masters crews competing on a 6.5-kilometre course.

The Cascades, the Simon Fraser University men’s and women’s teams, and local rowing clubs from the Lower Mainland took part.

Dozens of fans followed the action from the bridge over the Bedford Channel.
