The opening round of the BC Summer Games girls volleyball tournament is in the books.

Teams from every zone hit the sand on Friday to kick off the round robin tournament at Mill Lake Park on Friday. Results included:

The Fraser Valley team of Ashley Huberts and Karissa Marazzi kicked off the event with a 2-1 win over Fraser River’s Mackenzy Sparks-Guest and Julia Rosenrauch. The Fraser Valley pair won 19-21, 21-16 and 15-12 to earn the victory.

The Vancouver Island-Central Coast of Madison McDonald and Olivia Godek defeated the North East team of Nicole Watt and Kendra Potskin in two sets 21-14 and 21-19.

Fraser River’s Molly Peters and Madeline Bovich beat Sarah Watson and Rebecca Vanderdeen and Sarah Watson from Okangan 13-21, 24-22 and 15-9. Also in Pool C, it was Vancouver Island’s Maddie Yule and McCali Franklin sweeping Clara Temoin and Jynessa Kaulback from North East.

Vancouver Coastal’s twosome of Erin Finan and Olivia Yang edged Fraser Valley’s Teagan Boughen and Emma Gamache 18-21, 21-18 and 15-12.

The Kootenay team of Morgan Charlton and Brooke Lightburn swept North West’s Brittany Waite and Suttira Johansen 24-22 and 21-12.

Thompson’s Emma Wicklund and Nicola Lopes defeated Vancouver Island’s Hannah May and Zoe Dendas 21-18 and 21-18, while Vancouver Coastal’s Sofia Warrington and Jessica Goodridge swept the Kootenays Katie Anderson and Alaina Weltz 21-13 and 21-19.

The girls play a total of three games until the end of the day, with the boys kicking off a trio of game starting at 2 p.m.
