The Abbotsford Pilots closed off the month of September on a high note, extending the club’s current win streak to three games.
Abbotsford welcomed the Mission City Outlaws on Friday night, and a strong third period buoyed the team to a 6-4 win.
The Pilots took a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes, with Jamie Housch scoring goals on the power play and shorthanded. The second period saw the Outlaws score three goals and tie the game at three heading into the third. Pilots captain Baylee Wright scored the lone goal for Abbotsford.
Jayden Castle put Abbotsford back up at 8:30 of the third, but Mission tied the game at four at the 15:47 mark when Justin Hargrave scored a shorthanded goal. The final minutes of the game saw Jacob De Waal pot the eventual winner, with Castle scoring an empty net goal for some late insurance.
Wright collected four points to add to his Pacific Junior Hockey League leading total of 22, with De Waal (three), Castle (two), Cameron Obcena (two) and Housch (two) all recording multi-point games. Abbotsford goalie Keaton Dyck made 25 saves in the win.
Abbotsford also posted a 4-2 win over the Aldergrove Kodiaks on Sept. 26. The Pilots scored three unanswered goals over the first two periods, and then help off a third period push by Aldergrove to earn the win.
Obcena, Dylan Campbell, Housch and Roy McClure all tallied for the Pilots. Dyck again was solid in goal, making 30 saves.
The pair of wins vaulted Abbotsford to first in the Harold Brittain conference and they now sport an impressive 6-1-1 record.
The Pilots next travel to Richmond to take on the Sockeyes on Thursday night, and host the expansion White Rock Whalers for the first time ever on Friday. Face-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at the MSA Arena.
