Nechako Valley Secondary’s wresting team placed second at first regional meet of the season on Dec. 10, behind Prince George Secondary by one point.
“An awesome job by the 58 vikes wrestlers that participated today,” wrestling coach Travis Himmelright said. “The 42 athletes brought home a medal today all gained valuable experience.
“The coaches are very proud of the the athletes and thank all the great volunteers that put on a fantastic meet.”
“I was also vary pleased to see so many supporters in the stands.
“It is fantastic that citizens of Vanderhoof have the opportunity to participate and witness this grassroots event.”
The one-day event involved 234 bouts, 145 athletes, 10 officials, and many volunteers.
Next up: the team has a busy month in January as they compete in Prince George, Kamloops and Edmonton before trying to recapture their fourth straight zone title in mid-February, Himmelright said.
