The UVic Vikes ended the Canada West women’s field hockey season on a high note with a pair of wins

The UVic Vikes ended the Canada West women’s field hockey season on a high note with a pair of wins, 1-0 and 4-0 over the Calgary Dinos on Saturday and Sunday. And now the Vikes turn their focus to the CIS Championship, a four-team McCrae Cup which they host at UVic from Nov. 5 to 8.

The always strong UBC Thunderbirds have also qualified while the two clubs await the naming of their Ontario counterparts.

This week Vikes head coach Lynne Beecroft was awarded the Canada West Coach of the Year for the second straight season and fourth-year midfielder Kathleen Leahy was named the Gail Wilson Outstanding Contributor award winner.

This year’s Canada West title is the Vikes’ 17th conference banner. Vikes Leahy, Amanda Kurianowicz and Annie Walters-Shumka were named conference all-stars.
