The Nechako Valley Viqueens stormed through the Quesnel AA girls basketball tournament last weekend to bring home the gold.

“It was a really good weekend for us and we finished first,” said coach Andrew Sexton of the Viqueen’s effort.

They pounced on Kelly Road in the first game, beating them 90-17.

Then the tenacious players from Vanderhoof got ahead of Valley View from Kamloops, taking that game finishing a solid ten points ahead.

The gold medal match was closer but the girls were on their game. The Viqueens’ all star was Sheyanne Sundahl with honorable mention to Sydney Siemens who was a high scorer all weekend, noted the proud NVSS basketball mentor. Coach Sexton applauded the team for its sizzle.

“They fought hard and played tough and it was great to see,” he said of the girl’s playing in Quesnel

The final score against Williams Lake was 52-46 for the Viqueens.

The team plays in Kamloops January 27 and 28.
