VIU is offering some hoops for the holidays.
Vancouver Island University’s women’s basketball program is hosting a Christms tournament Wednesday (Dec. 28) through Friday.
Franjo Crnkovic, Mariners assistant coach, said the tourney should be a good one, with good competition gathering.
“SAIT’s currently ranked [13th] in the country, Camosun’s always a battle and Langara’s a young team that’s playing really well, so it’s going to be three good games for us to kind of get back into the flow and be ready for the league,” he said.
He expects players to pick up where they left off, without any holiday hangover, so to speak.
“We are strong promoters in academics and family and we know Christmas is an exciting time, but the sacrifices in being a student-athlete means you better come back in shape – or a little bit better – from your holidays,” Crnkovic said.
GAME ON … The M’s women take on the Langara Falcons on Wednesday (Dec. 28) at 3 p.m., face the Camosun Chargers on Thursday at 1 p.m., then play the Southern Alberta Institue of Technology Trojans on Friday at noon.
