Walter and Chaddock claim Valley Cross crowns

More than 200 riders took part in the Valley Cross cyclocross bike race series on Sunday at Mill Lake Park in Abbotsford.

The Valley Cross cyclocross bike race series returned to the trails of Mill Lake Park in Abbotsford Sunday, with more than 200 riders from across the Lower Mainland and beyond tackling the tricky two-kilometre course, which featured wood and paved sections, a stair run-up and a sand section.

Sandra Walter of Coquitlam claimed top prize in the women’s elite category, while Benjamin Chaddock of Whistler won the men’s elite crown.

In the master’s class, Karen Todd of Vancouver won the women’s title, with Andreas Hestler of North Vancouver grabbing the men’s prize.

The intermediate women’s title was claimed by Lindsey Von Bloedau of Vancouver, with Kelly Jones of Abbotsford finishing second. Federau Ricky of Chilliwack won the men’s event.

Due to the popularity of the race, along with another held in Cultus Lake, organizers have been invited to add a third race in Mission.
