Warriors close out pre-season with twin bill vs Vernon

BCHL teams wrap up exhibition campaign with games at Royal LePage and Kal Tire

The West Kelowna Warriors will play their final two exhibition games of the B.C. Hockey League’s pre-season this weekend, playing a home and home with the Vernon Vipers.

The Warriors and Vipers will play in Vernon at Kal Tire Place on Friday night before the two teams play in West Kelowna at Royal LePage Place on Saturday night to close out the team’s exhibition schedule.

The Warriors had a 3-3 tie and suffered a 2-0 loss to Penticton in its first two exhibition games last weekend.

The exhibition games are the final tune-ups for the Warriors who will head into a final week of practice next week prior to the annual BCHL Showcase tournament in Chilliwack next weekend.

The Warriors will play Surrey Sept. 6 and Nanaimo Sept. 7 at the showcase event, a gathering of all teams in front of college, university and pro scouts.

Warriors returning veteran Ambrose Firkus says the team is shaping up to be a good one this year.

“With the core guys we have coming back we feel we have a real good chance this year,” Firkus said on the Warriors’ web site. “We have a lot of skill on the team and a lot of young guys so we’re looking forward to the season.”

The Warriors will then return to West Kelowna for its home opener Sept. 13 as it plays host to Merritt.
