Warriors grab 2-0 series lead on Chiefs

West Kelowna wins the first two games of the BCHL final in Chilliwack

The West Kelowna Warriors are two victories away from their first ever B.C. Hockey League title.

The Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Fred Page Cup final with a 6-3 victory over the Chiefs Saturday in Chiliwack.

Games 3 and 4 are set for Monday and Tuesday at Royal LePage Place.

First-star Jonathan Desbiens scored twice and added an assist as the Warriors broke a 3-3 tie in the third period with three unanswered goals.

Kylar Hope had three assists, while Jake LeBrun, Nick Rutigliano, Brett Mennear and Kyle Marino—the latter two into the empty net—also scored for West Kelowna.

Matthew Greenfield, who recorded a shutout in Game 1, made 23 saves in the Warriors’ net.

The final moments of the game marred by Liam Blackburn taking a hit to the head with less than five seconds remaining.

Linden Hora was given a five minute major for checking to the head and a game misconduct.
