One more win.
That’s what stands between the West Kelowna Warriors and a berth in the BCHL’s Interior Division final.
The Warriors and Merritt Centennials will meet Tuesday night in Game 5 of their first-round series at Royal LePage Place. Face off is 7 p.m.
West Kelowna took a commanding 3-1 series lead thanks to a 3-2 victory Tuesday night in Merritt.
Reid Simmonds notched the winner four minutes in the third period, converting a pass from Brennan Clark.
Matt Anholt opened the scoring with a short-handed marker eight minutes into game four. Marcus Basara also converted a wild scramble with less than a minute remaining in the second period as West Kelowna rebounded from a 4-3 loss on Monday.
The big story early for the Warriors was Tyler Briggs who made 14 of his 38 saves in the opening period and was named the game’s first star.
“Briggsy was amazing both games for us,” said Reid Simmonds. “We just got a little bit of luck, and it worked out for us.”
A physical series from the first drop of the puck, Simmonds said the Warriors want to wrap it up as soon as possible.
“We’re just looking to seal it now. There are a lot of guys who are banged-up right now.”
Game 6, if necessary will be played Friday in Merritt, with a seventh game, if needed, Sunday at RLP.
The series winner will take on the defending champion Penticton Vees in the Interior Division final.
The Vees closed out Salmon Arm with four-game sweep in the opening round.
