The Braves Midget Tier 1 hockey team finished its regular season with a 2-1 win over Nanaimo Saturday.

Despite the win, in a tight race for the league title, the Braves finished second in league play, a single point behind Port Alberni.

The team, which includes 15- to 17-year-old players from Oak Bay, Saanich, Victoria and Esquimalt, now looks forward to the Island championships, when they’ll take on Juan de Fuca, Nanaimo and Comox. Play begins Feb. 4, with the winners representing the Island at the B.C. Championships in Prince George this March.

The Braves have earned a berth to provincials for the past three years.

Head to Pearkes Arena Feb. 4 when the Braves open playoffs with a 3 p.m. start against Juan de Fuca. The team heads to Comox Sunday and finishes round-robin the following weekend in Nanaimo.
