After the opening round of competition at the World Archery Youth Championships in Legnica, Poland, Sydney Watson, of Quesnel is in second place with a score of 679.

Watson is just seven points back of leader Danelle Wentzel of South Africa with a first-day total of 686.

In the first round of 36 arrows, Watson fired a 333 to sit in eighth place.

Watson fought through the jitters and fired an impressive 346 in the second set of 36 arrows, top score on the day.
