Since the teams were set on April 19 for the 2017 Western Canada Cup, presented by Sun Life Financial, a phone has been glued to the ear of Laura Carleton.
“My phone has been ringing off the hook,” said Carleton, director of tickets/group sales for the Penticton Vees. “People are wanting to see great hockey.”
The teams competing are the host Vees, Chilliwack Chiefs (BCHL), the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) champion Brooks Bandits, ranked No.1 in Canada, the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) champion Battlefords North Stars, ranked No. 5 in Canada and the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) champion Portage Terriers.
“We are getting ticket sales from people from those teams,” said Carleton, adding she has also taken calls from fans in West Kelowna and Vernon.
Single-game tickets are on sale as round-robin games are $15, with Vees round-robin games being $20. The three playoff round games are priced at $25 per person. Tickets can be purchased online at www.valleyfirsttix.com, or over the phone at 1-877-763-2849.
Tournament packages are still available as well, with the Vees Only priced at $130, which includes all four Vees round-robin games plus playoffs. The full tournament package, all 13 games is $179. As of Monday, Carleton said 1,350 packages have been sold. Single game tickets have been going well as she said people were waiting to purchase those as they could not commit to the package.
“We are happy with how it’s going,” said Carleton, who is taking calls from fans from the other provinces. “Anticipation is picking up.”
For this tournament, the Vees are required to set 50 tickets aside for the other teams.
