Weme erupts for 6 points as Oceanside Generals whip Nanaimo Buccaneers 7-2

Gens play first VIJHL home game Sept. 18 against the Lake Cowichan Kraken

Forward Greyson Weme scored three goals and helped on three more, leading the Quality Foods Oceanside Generals to a 7-2 win over the host Nanaimo Buccaneers in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League action Thursday night (Sept. 16).

It was the second win in row for the Generals, who opened their VIJHL campaign with a 5-3 victory over the Comox Valley Glacier Kings on Sept. 11.

Weme scored twice in the first period and had two assists to help the Generals build a 5-2 lead. Other scorers in the opening frame were Brett Arnett, Dylan McCormick and Carter Johnson. Brayden Rose scored the only goal in the second to make it 6-2 and Weme notched his hat-trick goal in the final frame.

Goalkeeper Aaron Kaner won his first game in the VIJHL, making 21 saves on 23 shots.

The Generals play their first home game against first-year club the Lake Cowichan Kraken at Oceanside Place on Saturday (Sept. 18) at 7 p.m.
