West Kelowna's Jennah Smailes (left) and Tekarra Banser will compete for B.C. in biathlon at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George.

Two athletes from West Kelowna will be joined by a coach from Kelowna on B.C.’s biathlon team for the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George.

Among the eight athletes competing will be West Kelowna’s Tekarra Banser and Jennah Smailes.

Rob Swan of Kelowna will serve as Team B.C.’s manager.

The team was selected based on the results of two days of competitions at the North American Cup #1 biathlon event in Canmore, Alta., on Dec. 6 and 7.

Tekarra and Jenna both ski and train in West Kelowna and are members at the Telemark Ski Club. Both are students at Mt. Boucherie Secondary School.

The B.C. team athletes will be training with their clubs over the next two months, and participating in two provincial-level biathlon events leading up to the Canada Winter Games—B.C. Cup 1 in Quesnel on Jan. 3 and 4, and B.C. Cup 2 in Whistler, Jan. 24 and 25.

At the 2015 Canada Winter Games, the biathlon competitions will take place during the first week of the games, Feb. 13 to 20 at the Otway Nordic Centre.
