The Westshore Warriors Peewee squad won their second consecutive undefeated Island championship.

The Warriors, part of the Greater Victoria Minor Football Association, won the Island Cup during the fall football season and the Gold Cup in the spring season.

Team manager, Dave Meade, said the group has been playing together for three years and this was their last year together before half the team moves up to junior bantam. He said the boys were able to rack up the wins because they stayed humble and approached each game anew.

“I think it was the best season of football we’ve ever had,” Meade said, adding he is proud of the culture they have created within the team.

The players are positive towards one another and hold each other accountable, and he said there’s never any shortage of parent volunteers. All parents support each player too, there’s no favouritism, “you can’t tell which child belongs to the parent,” Meade said.

A core group of players were instrumental in the undefeated seasons at defensive tackle, defensive end, fullback, running back, quarterback and linebacker positions.

All the players on the team are from the West Shore and Sooke, so most of them will go to the football program at Belmont Secondary and have the chance to play together again.
