The Ballenas Whalers Football program will be on full display this Saturday as the Whalers junior and senior teams are set to host to Belmont Bulldogs.
Starting at noon on Saturday, October 3, the junior Whalers will take the field against the Bulldogs from Victoria.
They’ll be looking for their second straight win after beating Holy Cross 22-2.
Following that, the seniors will take their turn against the Bulldogs, whose AAA team will be a challenge, but the Whalers will be up for it.
“We’ll be ready for them,” head coach Dan Smith said. “Things are looking good for us, we’ve got a good team.”
“I’m interested to see how we’ll be after having a week off, sitting out for a week can sometimes be a dangerous thing,” Smith said.
“But I thought we looked very good against Pitt Meadows, had an excellent game on defence and I’m expecting to see much more of the same.”
Smith and the Whalers will look to pound the ball on the ground once again, with a powerful running game at the centre of their offence.
They do have some weapons through the air too, something that he feels is very important to balance things out for his team.
“We’re a well-rounded team,” Smith said. “Our defence is a good, aggressive defence.”
“Our run game is set up similar to last season and we’ve got some good depth at the wide receiver position, so we can take some pressure off the run game with throwing the ball,” Smith said.
“We’ve got five good receivers and an excellent quarterback who can throw the ball, so I think we’ll see us throwing the ball a little more than last season too.”
