More than 30 teams rushed the pitch at a soccer tournament in Nanaimo this past weekend.
The Western Canada Rush Invitational, hosted by the Nanaimo academy, was held Saturday and Sunday at Merle Logan Field.
Claude Bolton, technical director of the Western Canada Rush, said there were teams from the mainland and Washington State and to make the visitors feel welcome, Sunday’s action started with the national anthems from both the Canada and the U.S.
“There seems to be very good camaraderie among the different academies and the club teams,” he said, adding that this weekend’s tournament showed that the academy and club systems can work well together.
“They’re all trying to achieve the same goal – a good environment for players and a good environment to develop individuals as well,” Bolton said.
