Comox golfer Riley Wheeldon will be teeing off at his home course at Crown Isle for a Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada qualifying school tournament May 1-4.

He placed sixth at last year’s event, shooting rounds of 68, 69, 69 and 71, to gain entry into the first four events of the tour. He finished the season at number 101 on the money list, earning $4,145 in 11 events.

In 2013, Wheeldon won a PGA Tour Canada event in Fort McMurray, Alta., and finished second on the money list. By doing so, he earned status for the 2014 Web.com Tour — a developmental tour for the American-based PGA Tour.

Before the Crown Isle tourney, the 27-year-old Wheeldon will play in a Vancouver Golf Tour event at Morgan Creek in Surrey on April 26 and 27, and then the Vancouver Island Open, April 28 and 29 in Victoria.
