The North Okanagan McDonald’s White Knights clinched the Atom Super Hockey League banner with two clutch wins last weekend.
Chad Pounder’s White Knights stopped the Interior Savings Credit Union Gladiators of Vernon 10-4 Sunday before shading Save-On Foods Hawks of Salmon Arm 5-4, both games at Enderby Arena.
Waylen Stowards supplied five goals as the White Knights grounded the Gladiators and improved to 16-1. Alex Hart (2), Gavin Smith, Kohen Pounder and Cody Collette completed the offence in front of Brayden Rypkema. Aidan Wattie earned two assists.
Pounder, Wattie, Parker Levesque, Kade Blair and Stowards scored versus the Hawks with Rypkema in net.
The Lumby Stars slammed Winfield 9-1 Sunday at Pat Duke Memorial to clinch the Bantam Super League regular-season banner.
Tage Kineshanko bagged 4+3 for the Stars, while Rory Campbell banged one in off a Shank feed and added two helpers, Noak Clarke sniped a pair, while Tye Krause pocketed a solo effort single and big Matt Yaremcio rifled a bar-down beauty.
Kaden Chuhanduk put the Bruins on the board late in the second.
The Stars were stunned 5-4 by Salmon Arm Audits & Safety Saturday at Pat Duke Memorial Arena.
Salmon Arm went ahead by three early in the first before Conner Seehaver finally backhanded the Stars on the board with a hard solo net drive. Campbell (1+2) and Kineshanko scored in the second and Linden Catt tied it up in the third, but Salmon Arm got the go-ahead goal with 4:33 remaining.
In other Bantam play,the Five Star Awards Rebels split games in Salmon Arm, stumping Audits & Safety Services 3-2 after being shaded 3-2 by Three Buoys Storage.
On Saturday at the Shaw Centre, the Rebels erased a 2-0 deficit against Three Buoys with two fast-break goals. First, left winger Owen Swiscoski took Quinn Soon’s outlet pass in stride and advanced the puck rink wide to Jayden Veit. The shifty wingman went in deep before serving up a nifty dish to Cole Grevatt, who slammed it home from the doorstep.
Next, Tyler Hamilton hit Caleb James on the breakout, and he relayed to Maisun Ang-Hamilton. The captain accelerated into the clear, converting with a brisk backhand deke. Three Buoys took the game with a late marker.
The Rebels broke the ice Sunday versus Audits & Safety as Soon head-manned to Sapion Joe, who worked a give-and-go with Veit and then busted in, beating the goalie with a low bolt to the stick side. Later in the first, James pushed a loose puck to Ang-Hamilton, and he traversed the Salmon Arm zone from left to right and buried a low backhand. Shorthanded midway through the second, Rebel goalie Mason Bueckert registered three preposterous saves.
In the third, Hamilton ripped a point shot that pinballed around the slot before Swiscoski flicked it home. In the Rebel net, Jakob Aeichele withstood a frantic Salmon Arm attack, putting up 16 stops to close out the win. Also key was the fearless shot-blocking of Hamilton, Robyn Alexis, and Tyler Kruysifix.
The Corbett Office Plus Kings dispatched the Nedco Blazers 3-1 in Midget action.
Nic Poirier opened the scoring for the Blazers off a turnover. The Kings levelled things midway through the second when Brandon Lehoux converted a nice feed from Liam Hennig.
Nate Tully bagged the final two goals for the Kings (11-4-1). Aaron Botterill was energy player of the game for the Kings with a number of scoring chances. Lucas Towers was solid on defence and Ethan Huizinga was stellar in net.
The Winfield Bruins bounced the Blazers 5-3 Saturday at Civic.
Nedco goals came from d-man Chapperon Chillihitzia, Adam Young and Reid Lawrence.
Blackburn Excavating used a powerplay goal with 1:41 left to clip the Vernon Authentic Trophy & Plaque Hawks 6-4 Saturday at Civic.
Sean Howard, with a hat trick, and Steve Benischek replied for the Hawks (8-9-1), who got fabulous goaltending from Nick Maglio.
In Pee Wee play, the Lumby Stars – sponsored by Bannister GM and Irly Bird Building – recorded a pair of weekend wins.
The Stars stopped Bannister GM Blazers 11-2 Saturday at Priest Valley Arena behind Bryden Murray’s 5+1. Quintin O’Neill earned 2+1, while Jack Laventure pocketed 1+2 and other goals came from Ryder Quibell, Jace Catt and Kolby English. Zachary Young delivered two assists. Great defensive play was turned in by Mia Maltman and Faith Seehaver in front of a stellar James Wraight.
Murray pulled the hat trick Sunday at home as the Stars dusted off the Butcher Boys Devils 6-1.
Young buried a beauty one-timer from Murray, while Tori Maltman and O’Neill finished the offence. Galileo Ingram was a solid two-way all weekend.
Butcher Boys ambushed the Scotia Bank Bears 8-1 and clipped North Okanagan Knights 4-3 in their other weekend games.
Dylan Hatlchuk,Hunter Farrell and Brady Devries each bagged deuces, while Ashton Sutch and Derek O’Callaghan added singles in froth of a stellar Kristi Vassberg. Jayden Attwood supplied a pair of helpers.
