THE LATEST races at the Terrace speedway proved to be eventful with a total of three crashes and a growing crowd of fans watching it all unfold.
Bombers, legends, and street stock cars also took to the track in larger numbers at the June 18 event.
“It was a bit of a wild night,” said speedway director Paul Fleming, noting the volume of crashes is a bit usual.
A street stock car took a tumble, flipping on it’s roof then landing upright again. One of the legend cars hit the track wall, ripping out a tire and in the fastest class, the A bombers, a massive crash left four of the five cars limping to finish the race.
The speedway just added the legend class this year and the existing street stock class is double last year’s count. All this has also brought out a sizable body of spectators.
“It’s a little bit of fresh blood at the speedway,” explained Fleming. “We sort of follow behind the economy a little bit, so economy’s been good for the last little while and it’s starting to show up at the speedway now.”
That weekend was the first ever win for Richard Meyer’s who took first place in the legend class. The following are the top three winners in each race:
In the bomber class, #16 Gord Tuckerman took the fast time. The B bomber heat race left #66 Vince McLain in third, #114 Aiden Archer in second, and #04 Colin Reinert in first. At the main event, both Archer and Rienert held their placings while #86 Simon Weston took third.
The A bomber heat results were #16 Gord Tuckerman in third, #669 Lance Albert in second and #60 Trevor Reinert in first. At the main event, Tuckerman secured first place, Albert remained second and #114 Paul Fleming came in third.
In the street stock class, #51 Kris Sweet earned the fast time.
In the street stock heat, #3 Trevor Dugaro took third, #77 Terry Reinert came in second, and #51 Kris Sweet came in first. Sweet and Reinert held first and second at the end of the main event and #76 Jeff Johnson raced into third.
The fast time in the legend class was #76 Howie O’Brien.
The legend heat race placed #13 Stan Sweet in third, #2 Phil Hustad in second and #26 Richard Meyer in first. The main event resulted in Meyer taking third, Sweet in second and Hustad taking home first.
The next event is the memorial race weekend on July 9-10.
