High school basketball is back, and the Westview Wildcats started by playing in the championship game of their host Tipoff Tournament on Saturday.
They lost the final to North Vancouver’s Seycove Seahawks by a score of 87-64 to take second place.
Westview coach Alan Roberts said the Seahawks have been the class of the Wildcats tourney, winning all three years they have hosted the event.
The Wildcats beat Langley 92-75 in their tournament opener on Thursday, then beat Archbishop Carney on Friday in a tight semi-final by a score of 57-54.
Westview had two players on the all-star team in guards Graeme Roberts and Paul Chang. Coach Roberts said he expects the two slashing guards to be regular contributors to the Westview squad this year.
The most valuable player of the tournament was Chris Ross of Seycove, who had an incredible 50 points in his team’s semi-final win over Charles Best by a score of 83-77.
Charles Best went on to finish third in the tournament, beating Archbishop Carney by a score of 110-65 in the bronze medal game.
Roberts expects that the Wildcats, with a group of veteran starters, should take some more wins in league play this season.
