The Williams Lake Golf and Tennis Club defended its home course during the weekend to reclaim the Ryder Cup.
The tournament, a team-play match between Williams Lake, 108 Mile, Quesnel and Aberdeen Glen Golf Course hosted at the WLGTC with two rounds Saturday and one round Sunday, featured 12 players in three flights from each club.
Williams Lake finished first with 72.5 points, 108 Mile was second with 49, Quesnel was third with 48.5 and Aberdeen Glen was fourth with 46.
One point was awarded for winning the front nine, one point was awarded for winning the back nine and one point was earned for the overall round per player.
Williams Lake’s team consisted of head pro and director of golf operations Tyler Brouilette, flight one players Morgan Day, Jarod Golightly, Brent Riplinger and John Pickard, flight two players Dave Lauzon, Rob Yaworski, Geoff Paynton and Kurtis Bond and flight three players Brad Fodchuk, Ron Bisaro and Richard Bailey.
“Besides the cool morning to start Saturday’s round and some wet weather [Sunday] the weekend went great,” Day said.
“All of the out of town players were raving about the course and the condition that it is in, as well as being very impressed with the meal that Beth and the cooks put on for everyone Saturday night.”
With the win, Williams Lake solidified its bragging rights for the year.
The course is now preparing to host its wildly popular Big Hole Four-Person Scramble this Saturday, Oct. 1, before wrapping up the season with the Cold Balls Four-Person Scramble on Saturday, Oct. 15.
