Win for Jack Webber in Chilliwack squash finals

Webber outlasted Atlee James in the March 17 championship match at the Cheam Leisure Centre.

Crowds perched above Chilliwack’s only remaining squash courts March 12-17 to watch the Chilliwack Open Squash Championships unfold inside the Cheam Leisure Centre.

Excitement built through the round-robin, ramping up to Saturday’s finals. Fifty-five players, including 11 women, were split into six divisions.

Jack Webber emerged victorious in the A division, defeating Atlee James.

Goran Panic took the B division title over Jared Lindstrom while Steven Kelly topped Tom Weslowski in the C division.

The D division saw Ryan McIntosh down Josh Bothot.

Max Leyen knocked off Ricky Federau in the E division and Shannon Wedel was the womens’ winner over Danica Whalley.

In a wildly entertaining exhibition match following the A final, Chilliwack’s Shawn Zwierzchowski (BC #21) beat Sam Scivier (BC #16) 11-9 in the fifth and final game in front of a packed house.

Despite permanently losing two courts to YMCA renovations, squash in Chilliwack is reaching record numbers. To learn more, email Zwierzchowski at chilliwacksquashpro@gmail.com
