The Nanaimo Buccaneers have beaten all the teams in their North Island Division during their recent win streak. Now they’ll try to keep it going against a club from the tougher South Island Division.
The city’s Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League team (11-10-1) hosts the Peninsula Panthers (14-9-1) tonight (Nov. 22) at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
The Bucs have won their last four games.
“As a young franchise we never expected to set the world on fire, but we’re pretty excited with where we’re at,” said Brad Knight, the team’s coach.
He said his players seem to be getting more comfortable as the VIJHL season goes on.
“It’s like anything else,” said the coach. “When you win a few games in a row and the confidence starts to flow, the things that you didn’t feel comfortable doing, you’re doing and you’re having success.”
GAME ON … Faceoff tonight is at 7:15 p.m. at the NIC. Admission is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors and students and $5 for children … The Buccaneers play the Oceanside Generals on Saturday (Nov. 24) at 7:30 p.m. at Oceanside Place … Jordan Levesque and Will McNamara, who scored hat tricks last week, were named the VIJHL’s players of the week.
