The Slocan Valley’s future athletes ran, jumped and kicked their way to the podium at a track meet hosted by Winlaw Elementary School on June 12.
Over 200 athletes from kindergarten to Grade 6 at Winlaw, W.E. Graham and Brent Kennedy Elementary competed in six different events including sprint, hurdles, shot put, standing long jump, high jump and high kick.
High kick, in which athletes attempt to kick a ball hanging above them, is a traditional Inuit sport that was run by Winlaw’s Aboriginal Education teacher Jesse Halton.
