The Parksville Lawn Bowling Club saw plenty of action this past weekend with the annual Salmon Can up for grabs between the club’s men and women.
In the end six teams — three from each side — took the top honours and went on to play in the annual “Battle of the Sexes – Salmon Can Trophy” minitournament for lawn bowling bragging rights.
The coveted Salmon Can Trophy was the culmination of the weekend with the three men’s and women’s teams squaring off.
The last time the women had won the cup was in 2011, so they were eager to end their drought.
In the end, the ladies prevailed winning the tournament on aggregate points.
The three teams representing the women’s side included Chris Fereday, Delores Adams and Linda Kummer, who were the number one seed for the women.
Second seed was the team of Diana Olenick, Ruby BishopRyan and Carol Barr.
Vera Gebardt, Olga Quinlan and Pat Goodwin took the third seed.
On the men’s side, first seed went to the team of Brian Mitchell, Gil Simpson and Clive Arthorne.
Pat Kelly, David Perry and Trevor Motley earned second seed.
Third seed was the team of Ken Olenick, Bill Jarrett and Andy Burton.
Next up is the club’s annual Shades of Pink Tournament on August 12, in support of local cancer patient care in the Oceanside area.
People are encouraged to come down, watch the sets play and support the club during this colourful and worthwhile event.
