The 53rd Annual 100 Mile Curling Club Women’s Bonspiel was a huge success last weekend, as 20 teams competed, including one from as far away as Hinton, Alberta.

The long-standing spiel also attracted teams from Kamloops, Quesnel, Ashcroft, Williams Lake Clearwater and Lillooet.

There were six foursomes on the ice for Sunday afternoon’s event finals, and 100 Mile Women’s Club president Joanne Doddridge says all of the games were very close and exciting.

A event

The TIM BR Mart A event final saw the Sandback team from Kamloops taking on the Coffey foursome from Quesnel.

Sandback was leading by one point coming home in the final end, and won without having to throw her last rock.

The Char Marshall rink, including lead Karen Murray, second Michelle Guy and third Sharon Goshorn, of 100 Mile took third, while the Lawson group from Quesnel had to settle for fourth place.

B event

The Pharmasave B event saw the Koster squad from Ashcroft coming home in the eighth end tied with the Teskey group out of Williams Lake.

Koster made a nice draw with her final rock for the victory.

The Shpak team from Quesnel walked away with third place and the Linda Peterson rink, including lead Gwen Gage, second Barb McInnis and third Marg Gammie, from 100 Mile finished in fourth.

C event

The Tim Hortons C event saw the local Hollis Ney foursome, including lead Sandra Coldwell, second Betty Warman and third Gwen Mitchell, coming home in the eighth end without the hammer and tied with the Anderson team from Clearwater.

Ney stole two in the final end for the victory.

Quesnel’s Bentley crew took third, while the Phillips foursome from Lillooet ended up in fourth.

Doddridge says everybody appeared to enjoy the fine food and service put on by the Men’s Club.

“The weekend was a great success with great curling action and lots of fun. We want to give a special thank-you to all the volunteers, and the local businesses that supported the event.”
