Wranglers knock off Kelowna Chiefs

Hometown boys play another great two way game for 5-1 victory

The hometown 100 Mile House Wranglers continued on their torrid pace towards the playoffs when they knocked off the Kelowna Chiefs 5-1 during Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action on Feb. 5.

While the Chiefs lit up the scoreboard first with a short-handed marker at 7:06 of the first period, Brett Harris knotted the score with a power play goal at 1:21 remaining in the period, with assists going to Michael Lynch and Jaydon Gilding.

The second stanza saw the Wranglers pop in three unanswered goals by Austin Turner (Gilding); Cole Zimmerman (Brady Ward); and Kolten Carpenter (Stephen Egan, Ryan Friesen).

Nick McCabe, who was named the Wranglers’ game star, popped in the lone third-period goal with the assist going to Harris.

Adam Derochie was excellent between the pipes for the Wranglers, as he stopped 21 of the Chiefs 22 shots.

Meanwhile, the Wranglers poured 34 shots on the Kelowna net.
