There couldn’t have been any place better to finish off the season for motocross racer’s than right here in their home town.
After a very busy season that started here in Quesnel back in April with snow on the ground and sleet and rain starting the season off, to what was mother nature’s reward this past weekend, Sept. 6 – 7.
With just enough rain the week prior to the races, to cooler, sunny days with a light shower on Saturday to keep the dust down, it couldn’t of been any better.
For the Quesnel Motor Cross Association, we were excited to host a third sanctioned event here in Quesnel for the first time.
In the past, we’ve only been able to host one race a year, but with the growth of the club and support from its members and the community, we pulled it off with great success and grateful riders.
Weeks before the event, members got busy, ordering trophies, arranging equipment, organizing volunteers and then a week before the race, the equipment arrived, and the work began with grooming the track, cleaning up the grounds preparing for the final race weekend.
Riders from all over came excited but also sad knowing this was the last BCMA race for the season that they would be spending with their MX families. After traveling together all season, many relationships were formed and memories were made.
For some at the Quesnel race, it was an opportunity to try racing for the first time, such as 15-year-old volunteer Royce Maxwell who spent the day being a flagger on Saturday. We then went home that night and told his parents he would rather be racing so the next day he arrived with his dirt bike and entered the Beginner class along with beginner Keaton Reichert who both had a fantastic time on the track.
Many local racers, ages 5-years-old – 40-years-old, male and female all came out and put their passion to power while family and friends cheered on.
Two top Intermediate racers for BCMA, 15-year old-Quesnel boys, # 671 Jackson Nickolet and # 82 Colton Shepherd, couldn’t of been happier as well to finish their race season off or their home track.
Finishing off the season, Nickolet will finish in first place with Shepherd taking second overall. The official announcements and trophy presentation will be hosted in Prince George at the 2014 BCMA year end banquet in October.
The Quesnel track will remain open for riding until the weather closes it down. Memberships are required to ride the track and can be purchased at Outback, Full Throttle or Elderado.
The Quesnel Motocross Association wants to thank all those involved for making this season a success and look forward to hosting some fund raising events in the near future to raise funds to purchase some desperately needed equipment and materials to maintain the sport of Motocross in Quesnel.
