The goals just kept on coming for both the Yale Lions and the Delta Hockey Academy midget prep hockey teams at the Abbotsford Recreation Centre on Friday.

The Lions skated away with the 10-8 win to close off the 2016 Canadian Sport School Hockey League calendar.

Both goalies allowed four goals in the first period, with the Lions overcoming a two-goal deficit twice in the opening frame. Yale got goals from Holden Kodak (two), Josh Williams and Alex Swetlikoff.

The Lions took over the game in the second period, closing off the period with a 9-7 lead. Matthew Konrad (two), Dylan Stolz, Dylan Cozens and Swetlikoff all scored for Yale in the second.

The teams traded one goal apiece in the third, with Kodak notching his hat trick goal at 15:57 of the third. Kodak collected six points in the win, with Rhett Rhinehart adding four assists and Konrad having a four-point night.

The game was one for the history books, as the eight goals allowed was the most ever by a winning team in the CSSHL.

The team also collected a shopping cart full of non-perishable food items to donate to those in need.

Lions goalie Mathieu Caron made 16 saves in 40 minutes of action to earn the win.

Yale’s record now sits at 10 wins and five losses and they are in seventh place in the midget prep division, but have several games in hand on the teams ahead of them.

The midget prep team returns to action on Jan. 7, when they again battle Delta on the road. They return home to host Delta on Jan. 8.

The other Yale teams are also done for 2016, with the Elite 15s club in fifth place with a record of nine wins, six losses and three overtime losses. They return to action on Jan. 6 against the Okanagan Hockey Academy.

The Lions bantam prep team heads into the break in fourth place, with a record of 11 wins and six losses. They also kick off 2017 against the OHA on Jan. 6.
