The Yale Secondary hockey academy’s new under-16 boys team made an auspicious debut last weekend as the Canadian Sport School Hockey League regular season opened in Calgary.

The showcase event brought together seven teams – five from B.C., two from Alberta and one from the United States – and the Yale contingent fared very well over their four games, earning seven of a possible eight points.

Yale notched victories over Banff Academy (21-2), Okanagan Hockey Academy (5-0) and Compete Academy (5-1), and dropped a 5-4 decision to Burnaby Winter Club in a shootout. Local standouts included Ben Brar and Carter Shannon, who each had hat tricks over the weekend.

The next CSSHL showcase will be held at Pitt Meadows Arena, Oct. 11-13.  For more information, visit www.csshl.ca.
