Youth Bowling League to start in Campbell River

Recruitment begins for a new season at CR Bowling Centre

It has been a few years since there was an organized youth league in ten pin bowling, according to the Campbell River & District Bowling Association (CRDBA), but they’re trying to remedy that.

The CRDBA is currently in the process of forming bowling leagues for youth bowlers in Campbell River. The organization says there are many opportunities for youth bowlers who are members of the Canadian Tenpin Federation and the BC Tenpin Federation to enter tournaments and win scholarship money, and they want Campbell River to be a part of that.

The youth league will be open to young people ages 10 to 18 and will begin for 13 weeks beginning Saturday, Nov. 7 with some Saturdays off when the bowling centre is hosting tournaments or other pre-scheduled events. The 13 week season may be extended if there is interest in continuing.

Effort will be made to place bowlers on teams with their own age groups and coaching will be available. Cost is $10 per week, plus $1 for shoe rental. There is also a $30.00 registration fee which includes membership in the Canadian and provincial governing bodies of ten pin bowling. Volunteers are working on finding organizations possibly will sponsor some of the youth bowlers by paying their membership fee. To register go online to crbowlingcentre.com.

New lanes were installed in the CR Bowling Center last season and there has been renewed interest in bowling in Campbell River. Bowling is a fun and social event as well as good exercise. While most leagues are handicaped to guarantee an equal playing field that are more fun than competitive there is opportunity to bowl in competitive events as well. There are also openings in some of the adult leagues for new teams.
