Castlegar soccer players are going to get to hone their skills in a new indoor soccer league this winter.

The Castlegar Minor Soccer Association (CMSA) is bringing Futsal — is a great form of soccer that lends itself to an indoor gymnasium environment — to the Selkirk College Gymnasium in Castlegar for a winter league. The league will run five Sundays in November and another five, starting in January.

The league is open to all players from all the clubs in the Kootenay South Youth Soccer Association (KSYSA).

Early registration goes until September 16, however, regular registration will go until September 30. For those who register early, there will be a $10 savings.

Dave Grantham, CMSA president, is extremely excited about the league and how it will allow young players a chance to hone their skills during the soccer off season.

“The game is fast with lots of passing,” he said, speaking specifically to the difference of Futsal comparied to regular soccer. “The ball is on the ground more and the players’ technical skills are tested.”

The league is for kids of all ages, from U4 and up.

Grantham said he is hoping to see kids as young as three years old getting started in the game.
