Anyone can climb into the cockpit of a handful of iconic Canadian aircraft at the BC Aviation Museum this weekend.
The North Saanich site offers by-donation admission, and a chance to climb into a Lockheed CT-133, Grumman Tracker, Convair 580, Sikorsky S-55 helicopter and VIH Kamov helicopter with Open Cockpit Day.
“It’s been a long time since we’ve done an event like this so we’re keeping it to opening up five of our cockpits for the public to sit in,” operations manager Julia Cairns said. “We’re hoping to tie it into some of the Family Day activities happening on the Island.”
Billed as an amazing opportunity for kids and parents alike to get up close to the past, the invite affords unlimited photo opportunities.
Anyone and everyone is welcome to come and sit in a cockpit with admission by donation.
“Hopefully we can welcome even more folks by removing the barrier of admission,” Cairns said.
Organizers recommend folks dress warm as two of the aircraft are outdoors.
Supervised by volunteers, the cockpits are open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18 at the BC Aviation Museum, 1910 Norsman Rd.
