The annual Show of Hearts telethon to help raise funds for kids in B.C. with complex care needs is set to kick off later this month, featuring a laundry list of Canadian talents set to hit the stage.
In its 58th year, the telethon sets to raise money to support children with health and mobility aids, therapists, counsellors, tutors and necessary adaptive equipment. Last year, the telethon saw more than 9,500 donors and raised $11.1 million, which provided life-changing care for 21,000 children across 240 communities in B.C.
The telethon hopes to raise an even higher total this year.
“Variety is committed to stepping in for families who need urgent support and specialized care when there is nowhere else to turn,” said Variety B.C. CEO Andrea Tang.“The essential programs, services, and resources made possible by our generous donors not only transform daily realities for children – they change the trajectory of their future and positively affect entire communities across the province.”
Every donation made during the Feb. 25th show will be matched by groups of donors and various organizations.
And the stage will be filled with ongoing entertainment, including: celebrities such as Joe Jonas, Natalie Portman and George Stroumboulopoulos, as well as Vancouver’s very own, Seth Rogan. Adam Beach and Evan Goldberg will also be in attendance, as well as Canadian musicians include the Barenaked Ladies and Tom Cochrane.
