People come from all around to bring their dogs to this off leash dog beach at Sunoka Provincial Park. It is said to be one of the best dog beaches in the Okanagan. Kit and Chica, being Summerland dogs, get to enjoy it often.

The dog days of summer are no problem for canines living in, or visiting, the Summerland area.

A farewell party, for the students visiting from Toyokoro Japan, was held at Peach Orchard Beach on Friday evening. After a chicken dinner there were speeches and gift presentations. The students gave a calligraphy demonstration and each thanked their host families and expressed their appreciation for their visit to Summerland. Most commonly mentioned were the facts that Summerland was a very beautiful place, that it was “very hot” here and that the experience would be memorable. After the formalities the students were given the opportunity to paddle a kayak on Okanagan Lake. In this group photo is the students, their chaperones, the interpreters, host families, members of the Sister City Committee along with the mayor and several Summerland council members.

The Summerland IGA held a two day fundraising event on the weekend, with all proceeds going to the Summerland Food Bank. Volunteers helping serve were 13-year-old Tristen Brown, 10-year-old Bethany Brown, 11-year-old Molly Kennedy and Lisa Miller. The event raised $458.

Kripps prepares for summer bobsleigh

The winter Olympics are the farthest thing from one’s mind in the middle of a hot Okanagan summer. That is unless you spot Justin Kripps.

Volunteers with the Canadian Cancer Society, Nishat Tasnim and Alex Cloherty, were at Rotary Beach on Saturday. They had umbrellas set up on the beach and were handing out pamphlets and sunscreen samples in order to help educate the public about sun safety and skin cancer.

Approximately 150 all-terrain vehicle enthusiasts attended the Off the Grid 2014 Jamboree from July 15 to 20.

There are 86 collector car clubs in B.C. which have brought in over 40 million dollars to the province, over the past year.
