Determined couple save canine stuck on mountain top

Barb Gordon says she goes for a walk every morning with her neighbours Dan and Debra Brookes and their two dogs in the Glen Grove Subdivision area which is just off Agate Bay Road near Barriere. During their morning walk on Sunday, Aug. 9, Barb says they could hear a dog barking consistently from some distance away the entire time that they walked.

Barriere RCMP advise residents to be alert and keep vehicles and valuables secured

Barriere RCMP advise they have been notified by a concerned resident that in the evening hours of Aug. 14, 2020, three to four youth males of unknown further description were observed trying door handles on vehicles at a property in the area of Glentanna and Barriere Town Road. "A local resident scared them off and they are not believed to have departed with any stolen property," reports Cpl. Rob Welsman, "RCMP are asking Barriere residents to be on the lookout for this sort of activity and to secure all vehicles and valuables as part of their 9 p.m. routine.

Structure fire in the forest near Barriere gives Glen Grove residents a scare

On the evening of Wednesday, July 29, Barriere Fire Rescue were called out at 10 p.m. for a structure fire in the 3200 block of Agate Bay Road.

Housing Needs Report accepted by District of Barriere Council

On May 6, 2019 Council supported an application to UBCM for funding up to $15,000 towards a Housing Needs Report (HNR) for the District of Barriere and to provide grant management for the overall report; and further, to invite the surrounding Area O of the TNRD to become a partner in the report in order to create an accurate housing needs assessment of Barriere and the surrounding area. The resultant Housing Needs Report has been presented to Council and thereby have formally "received" the report by resolution as required under Local Government Act s.585.31.

North Thompson reacts from heavy rains and snow melt

The North Thompson River had its ups and downs this past week as heavy rains continued to swell area streams and waterways, and the last of high country snow melt finds its way down to valley bottoms. The region has seen significant rainfall over the past few weeks, which is continuing prompt warnings and watches from the BC River Forecast Centre for Interior rivers.

Barriere's newest business hasn't opened yet, but it is already causing quite a stir with area residents. The stir is one of enthusiasm though as the community welcomes Dr. Zach Paul, DC, who will soon be opening Backwoods Chiropractic within Barriere.

Thunder rolls and the North Thompson River is still rising

With a wet start to summer in the North Thompson area, Environment Canada issued a warning on June 27 that incoming storms would dump heavy rains for the North Thompson, and especially the Kamloops area, with upwards of 15 millimetres of rain over a short period of time. Thunder storms and rain have also been an everyday occurrence since June 26.
