Last week, the River Forecast Centre issued a High Streamflow Advisory for tributaries of the North Thompson River in the Barriere and Clearwater areas. This included Fishtrap Creek near McLure which at the time was flowing at a five-year flow(9m3/s) the morning of May 6.
Calls included eight burning complaints and five road rescue

Fishtrap Creek near McLure reaches five-year flow
Youngsters took advantage of the opportunity to wave at their teachers on Friday, May 1, when Barriere Elementary and Secondary School staff took to their vehicles, started their engines, and completed a parade route around the heart of the community so they could wave and say "hello" to their students. The line of vehicles was long, and the smiles from adults and students were wide. School staff commented on how much they enjoyed the parade and the opportunity to see their students after all B.C. schools from kindergarten to grade 12 were officially closed indefinitely on Mar. 17, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wanda Nystoruk is a member of Barriere Emergency Social Services (ESS) where she works with a great team of volunteers, many having been involved with this ESS team for a number of years. The team participate in a variety of training courses on a regular basis to prepare for any emergency (such as floods and wildfires) that may impact the residents of Barriere and the surrounding area.
The District of Barriere held its first audio conference Council Meeting on Apr. 6, 2020, due to the current social distancing requirements regarding COVID-19. A few members of the public also took the opportunity to attend the audio conference.
Barriere blooms every spring in this North Thompson Valley Community. In fact it's gardens have bloomed so much in past years that the town has won a number of impressive awards for the efforts of area residents and businesses who take pride in where they live, work and play.
Pastor Lance Naylor of the Christian Life Assembly Church in Barriere brought a memorable Easter Sunday Service to his parishioners while maintaining social distancing by holding a drive-in service in the church parking lot, live-streaming on Facebook, and live from the Bear Radio Station mobile unit. Keeping calm while all around you may be losing their heads
A big congratulations to Barriere Secondary Junior Boys Basketball Team for bring home the Single A West Zone Championship. The Championship was held last weekend at SaHali Secondary in Kamloops. Barriere boys beat South Kamloops Senior Secondary in the final game with a score of 48-26. A great way for the BSS team to finish off their season.
