Congratulations to Barriere Secondary Junior Boys Basketball Team on winning the Ashcroft Tournament on Jan.24-25. The team are having a great season with their win in Ashcroft and coming second at the St. Ann's Jr. Boys Tournament. Their playoffs are now just around the corner.
The Barriere Star Journal's Facebook page recently held a 'Show Us Your North Thompson Winter of 2019/2020 Photo Contest'. The winner was determined by the number of 'Likes' that each submitted photograph received from our Facebook page followers. Congratulations to Nancy Walkey of Barriere for being chosen the favourite submission for her photograph of the North Thompson River taken from the shoreline in Rayleigh. The Star/Journal also says a big "thank you" to all those who took the time to share their photographs to our page.
Last weekends Barriere Secondary Cougar Classic on home turf saw Barriere win three out of four of their games (losing against Hope) in the round robin. They then played Hope for top spot and won with a score of 43-35. Due to injured players not being able to compete in the tourney the Barriere Senior Girls had added BSS grade 8 players Bobby-Raye Farrow and Alexis Nelson to the team. Winter snow storms and extended power outages did nothing to delay the exciting arrival of the first baby of 2020 for the Barriere area. William James Johnson (named after great-grandpa William Alexander) made his appearance at Royal Inland Hospital on Jan. 2, 2020, at 8:57 a.m., almost an hour to the day ahead of his mom's scheduled C-section says happy parents, Jamie and Allen Johnson. William weighed in at seven pounds and 13 ounces.

The annual Santa Skate at the North Thompson Sportsplex in Clearwater was a pleasure for all who attended. A large crowd turned out to the event including a number of folks from Darfield and the Barriere area as well. Santa and some of his elves where in attendance, both skating and providing a comfortable spot to chat with the youngsters. Free hot dogs and hot chocolate were available to all courtesy of Century 21 Rison Realty.
