Interior Health hands out long term service pins

An informal celebration and a lite lunch recognizing three Interior Health employees took place on Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Barriere Health Centre. Long Term Service Award pins were presented to Cherie Jardine for 24 years in Home Support, Public Health Nurse Angela Semrick for 10 years of service, and Carmen Ross who has worked in administration for 25 years.

Barriere junior girls win in Merritt

Barriere junior girls win in Merritt

Barriere Secondary's Junior Girls Volleyball team travelled to Merritt last Monday for league play against Logan Lake, Merritt, and Kamloops School of the Arts. The BSS girls won all three of their games and are now looking forward to their next time on the court for a home game in Barriere on Oct. 28. The team have had a good year and are readying for an upcoming tournament at TRU on Nov. 1-2, and hopefully the playoffs Nov. 8 - 9.

BC Fairs recognizes Barriere Star/Journal

Staff at the North Thompson Star/Journal were excited to learn last weekend that their Black Press newspaper had been awarded the BC Association of Fairs and Exhibitions 'Outstanding Business Partner Award' for the support that the publication has provided to the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Association over the past 20 years plus. The nomination spoke highly of the Star/Journal, noting their support to the annual North Thompson Fall Fair in Barriere has been exemplary. Star/Journal staff consistently volunteer for the annual three-day fair, and can always be found volunteering and assisting with other promotions and events hosted by the association.

However, the same can be said for newspaper carriers who deliver the news to their customers no matter what Mother Nature decides to throw in their way.

Thompson Valley Players youth representative Missy Kjellstrom had the honour of presenting this year's recipient of The Huntley Cooper Rising Star Award to Dayna Underhill on the entertainment stage during the North Thompson Fall Fair on Sunday, Sept. 1. Every year to honour Huntley Cooper the TV Players present this award to a hard-working student with a passion for the theatre. Missy Kjellstrom was the 2018 recipient of this award.

Businesses all dressed up for Fall Fair week in Barriere

This year businesses and residences in Barriere pulled out all the stops to help decorate the town in celebrating 70 years for the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Association.

First place in the NTFFRA Best Dressed Business contest went to the Annex Thrift Store for their extensive display, both inside and outside their store.
