New data on elk to help species, numerous organizations

Wildlife groups in the Elk Valley hope that new data from a four-year collaring study will help shed light on the solutions necessary to help elk populations bounce back, as well as benefit numerous organizations.

Hotel life a reality for family affected by housing shortage

Jeanine Smith sits on the edge of her hotel bed while her son Dakota Armstrong and his girlfriend Melissa Leclair lie behind her watching movies on their phone. Smith looks out the small window in the far corner of the room - even if they wanted to move, they couldn't. The lack of housing in Fernie has forced them to live out of hotel room for the past month.

City of Fernie advances truth and reconciliation initiatives

The City of Fernie has taken steps towards advancing reconciliation through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action. This could include several initiatives such as cultural training, land acknowledgements, a review of the Ghostrider logo, and inclusion of Ktunaxa language in City signage.

The City of Fernie announced at the beginning of August a dangerous log jam is located north of the Fernie Golf Course and between Fernie and Hosmer. The log jam has caused the Elk River to be considered unsafe and unpassable in this area.
