Vancouver Island’s third largest winery opens its tasting room doors this long weekend after much anticipation from the local community.

Owner Bill Montgomery is proud to showcase the first four wines in his collection, a small but well made production of 2009 and 2010 Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Rose.

The grand winery 10,000 square foot building is set upon 24 lush acres of coastal land generously planted with almost 50,000 vines. Production is gradually increasing with a few new wines yet to be released including the first sparkling wine which will be available in time for the holiday season.

Montgomery’s talented team consists of local island winemaker Natasha Ponich, vineyard manager Matt Rademaker, Okanagan wine consultant Christine Leroux, and sales and marketing consultant Marnie Martin.

With plenty of parking, a lovely patio area and huge gazebo space which overlooks the vines, 40 Knots Estate Winery is the perfect place for wedding photos, meetings and special occasions. The tasting room will be open from noon — 5 p.m. Friday to Sunday or by request at 250-941-8810. Visit www.40KnotsWinery.com.
