An Abbotsford business has been named a finalist for the Edison Awards.
VSSL Outdoor Utility Tools will be among the companies recognized at the awards gala on April 21 in New York, where the winners are announced.
VSSL is among three finalists in the “athletics and recreation” category, and is among those selected from a total of 3,000 nominations across more than 45 categories.
The Edison Awards, named for American inventor Thomas Edison, honour innovative new products, services and business leaders.
VSSL (pronounced “vessel”) crafts flashlight-shaped lanterns containing supplies that are essential for outdoor excursions.
There are several different versions, each containing specific items such as critical survival items, personal first aid care, and a two-person emergency shelter.
“As a relatively new company, it’s pretty awesome to get this type of recognition. Accolades like this are very motivating. It’s an incredible way to start the year,” said VSSL founder Todd Weimer of being named as an Edison Awards finalist.
In 2015, VSSL was a recipient of the UROC Award from the Abbotsford Youth Commission for hiring youth with development disabilities.
