Coast Outdoor Advertising Ltd. has been fined for an incident that happened near Ladysmith.
WorkSafe BC’s WorkSafe Magazine this month published that the company was fined $7,844.35 on Jan. 5, 2011 under the Worker’s Compensation Act and/or Occupational Health and Safety Regulation.
The magazine said the worker suffered severe burns and other serious injuries after touching a live overhead power line with a metal rod and falling about 8.5 m.
The WorkSafeBC article said the firm allowed work to proceed within the limits of approach of the high-voltage line and was in violation of the minimum distance needed between workers and high-voltage conductors.
The magazine said the company had failed to ensure that its worker used a fall-protection system and the information, instruction, training and supervision needed.
