Colouring is being hailed as providing a healthy way to reduce stress and, like meditation, increase a sense of well-being.

As the colouring craze intensifies, Rokim Art Mavens ( Kim Chester and Rox Sim-Hermsen) are helping fans take their colouring to the next level and teach them how to create 3D blending effects using Sim-Hermsen’s colouring pages.

Armed with fine arts diplomas – Sim-Hermsen also has a BA in education – the mavens are offering classes from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday Nights at Dolce Bistro on Alexander Street.

Sim-Hermsen teaches blending and layering with Prisma pencil crayons and Chester uses a variety of pencils to teach blending techniques.

“We use professional art materials because they do make a huge difference in blending and shading and our prints are on 100-lb paper that really takes the materials well,” says Chester, pointing out that art can be healing and therapeutic. “We have both gone through some difficult times and found art to be a positive and uplifting way to deal with life’s losses and traumas.”

Chester says students go home with their new knowledge of both coloured pencil and graphite pencil blending and a colouring page.

More colouring pages and greeting cards are also available.

The first lesson is $40 including materials. If participants choose to buy their own colouring materials they are available for $35.

Students who return pay $20 for the second lesson and $10 for each subsequent lesson.

“Come out and have some fun learning new techniques and treat yourself to a coffee and goodies from Dolce Bistro’s wonderful selection,” says Chester, noting there is a sign-up sheet at Dolce.

Those who wish to take a class may also email Sim-Hermsen at Roxiartwork@gmail.com.

In addition to the Dolce sessions, the art mavens also do colouring parties for girls’ night out and for seniors as well.
