North Okanagan businesses, residents and producers are being asked to help determine the future of agriculture.
The Regional District of North Okanagan is seeking input as part of the development of an agricultural area plan.
“An agricultural area plan identifies opportunities to strengthen farming, and to contribute to food production and regional sustainability,” said Anthony Kittel, regional growth strategy co-ordinator.
“The plan will identify key issues and opportunities, make recommendations for future actions and include a practical strategy for implementation.”
Kittel says the policy document will guide future decision-making related to local agriculture and food production.
“As part of the consultation process, the steering committee is interested in hearing from a broad array of agricultural producers, consumers, community groups, associations, businesses and individuals,” he said.
There are two online surveys – one for producers and one for the public.
“Collectively, this public input will be used in the creation of a background report that will provide greater insight into agricultural production, top of mind issues, suggested solutions and the overall agricultural vision for the North Okanagan,” said Kittel.
“All of this public input will be considered during the development of the plan and there will be another opportunity in the Fall for the public to get involved.
The survey can be completed online at www.rdno.ca/agplansurvey or use a paper form which is available at the RDNO office and municipal offices. The deadline is Sept. 1.
