Angie Quaale, who operates Well Seasoned Gourmet Foods and is the driving force behind the highly-successful Barbecue on the Bypass each September, is the new president of the Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce.
She was formally sworn in on Tuesday night at the chamber’s 81st annual general meeting. She takes over from Denni Bonetti of Bonetti Meats.
Quaale is well-known to Times readers as the author of a regular column, and also appears regularly on Global TV. She is also a founding board member of the Langley Community Farmers Market.
“I joined the chamber in 2004 as a brand-new entrepreneur,” she said. “I was a little nervous at first, but I quickly learned the power of being part of a business organization. At the recent B.C. Chamber annual general meeting, I really appreciated the power of the chamber network, and the work it does to effect change for the business community and the economy.”
She paid tribute to outgoing president Bonetti and presented her with a framed photo of a storm moving through Langley, one that was taken by Bonetti’s son Lorenzo.
There was no election of directors at this year’s annual general meeting, with all new board members being elected by acclamation.
The first vice-president is Jeremy East of BDO Canada. Second vice-president is Brian Dougherty of Horizon Landscape Contractors.
Community directors are Viviane Barber of Facet Advisors for North Langley; Michelle Chandra of Sutton West Coast Realty for Aldergrove; Danielle Nielsen of Aldergrove Credit Union for South Langley and Scott Johnston of Campbell, Burton and McMullan for Langley City.
Directors at large for the coming year are Sharon Newberry of Rheanew Business Solutions; Mary Reeves of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Scott Waddle of Precision Auto Service; Anne Lavack of Kwantlen Polytechnic University; Kris Mohammed of Buy Rite Business Furnishings and Tammy Rea of TD Canada Trust.
The new board will take part in a retreat shortly to come up with an action plan for the coming year, and planning is already well underway for the annual Business Excellence Awards, which are presented in October at a gala at the Summit Theatre at Cascades Casino. This year’s gala takes place on Oct. 20, and people are invited to consider nominating local businesses and business people in a variety of categories.
